Problem

Redesign a traditional cereal box to be more efficient, ergonomic, and user friendly. Enhance the user experience.
Solution
The cereal box has remained the same since its invention in the 1930’s. Like most things, even items like a cereal box must evolve in order to maintain comparable efficiency to other items. After identifying the ergonomic flaws that cereal boxes present to the user, I established my redesign objectives; ease of use, product freshness, effortless storage, and sustainability. A prominent flaw in the cereal box packaging is the “reclosable” tab located on the top of the box. The redesign allowed for the consumer to remain confident that they were the first to open the component, and provided full resealable capabilities after the initial seal was broken. This also resulted not only in a spill proof package, but assured product freshness as well. The wide-based, geometric packaging offered easy cabinet storage among other pantry items, and stability when standing alone. The redesigned component would be produced with recycled materials and eliminate the inner plastic bag while maintaining low production costs.
